The Plateau State Police Command has apprehended two suspected members of the dreaded Sara-Suka cult group accused of terrorising parts of Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Alfred Alabo, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Jos on Wednesday, revealing that operatives also recovered dangerous weapons and substances believed to be hard drugs during separate operations targeted at flushing out criminal elements from the state.
Alabo explained that the raids on suspected criminal hideouts followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, as part of ongoing efforts to combat cultism and the abuse of illicit substances across Plateau State.
According to the police spokesman, one of the suspects identified as Adam Abdullahi, 18, a resident of Yen Siminti, Rikkos-Jos, was arrested in the Gengere area of Jos North with a double-edged knife, suspected cult regalia, and substances believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine, commonly referred to as “ice”.
“In a separate operation, operatives from Angwan Rogo Division arrested one Khalifa Yusuf, 20, of Angwan Rimi, Jos, at the 011 Prayer Ground opposite the University of Jos permanent site,” Alabo said.
He disclosed further that a knife and some dried leaves suspected to be cannabis were recovered from the second suspect.
“The two suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
“The Plateau State Police Command reiterates its commitment to rid the state of cultism and drug-related crimes, and urges residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to security agencies,” the police spokesman said.
