A fermented cereal pudding made from maize (corn), pap is also known as akamu, ogi, koko, and eko in Nigeria. It goes by these names. This low-calorie food has existed for decades, yet a large number of people in Nigeria continue to consume it regularly.

A 2018 study on the nutritional composition of pap revealed that it contains high levels of carbohydrates, vitamins (A, B5, B3, B1, riboflavin, and C), folic acid, potassium, chromium, selenium, zinc, phosphorus, and magnesium. It also includes essential amino acids such as tryptophan, phenylalanine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, and valine. One serving of pap contains approximately 152 calories.
