At least 12 countries have now been knocked out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup before the conclusion of Saturday’s decisive group-stage fixtures.

Iraq, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and New Zealand became the latest teams to see their campaigns come to an end.

Uruguay’s hopes were dashed after a slim 1-0 defeat against Spain, while Saudi Arabia failed to progress despite holding Cape Verde to a goalless draw.

A total of 16 nations are expected to be eliminated before the competition moves into the knockout phase.
