Samuel Ortom, the most recent governor of Benue, claimed that God had instructed him not to run for office in 2027.

During a courtesy visit from members of the People’s Democracy Party (PDP) G-14 on Tuesday in Makurdi, Ortom revealed the information.

Elders from the PDP in the 14 Tiv-speaking local government districts of Benue make up the G-14 members.

According to the former governor, he was forced to honour God’s will.

He acknowledged that his defeat in the 2023 election was due to his failure to seek God’s guidance prior to running.

According to Ortom, the PDP was committed to seizing control of the Benue Government House in 2027.

In 2023, he claimed that his inability to consult God cost him the Senate seat.

“I’m not contesting the 2027 election. I knew why I lost the election in 2023. I didn’t consult God. My people purchased the forms for me, and I accepted them without consulting God.

“God has revealed everything to me. He has asked me to wait for him,” he said.

Ortom also revealed that he made significant sacrifices while serving as the state’s governor, including leaving his friends and family at one point in order to attend to official business.

The former governor pledged to support the party going forward and stated that the party’s interests should always come first.

He said that the elders opposed his desire to take a sabbatical after leaving office.
