On Friday, a lady named Olamide Thomas was arraigned at a Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly threatening Seyi Tinubu with death on social media.

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police’s office, arraigned her before Justice Emeka Nwite on a three-count charge.

In a widely shared social media post, Olamide allegedly threatened and harassed Seyi Tinubu, Egbetokun, and the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, leading to his detention, according to ZINGTIE.

Olamide was sued as the lone defendant in the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/636/2024, which was dated and filed on December 18 by the police team of solicitors under the direction of A.A. Egwu.

Victor Okoye, who represented the police, informed the court that the case was scheduled for arraignment when the session began, adding that he was ready to proceed.

The defendant entered a not guilty plea to the charge after being read the charges.

T J. Aondo, SAN, the defence attorney, attempted to file an oral application on behalf of his client, but the motion was denied.

Aondo was instructed by Justice Nwite to submit a formal bail application, and the case was postponed until December 30 in order to start the trial.

However, the judge gave the defence attorney the assurance that the court would not hesitate to hear a bail application as soon as it was submitted as a motion on notice.

As a result, he mandated that she be placed on remand at Suleja Correctional Centre until her bail application was considered.

In count one, Olamide was accused of purposefully and knowingly using a computer system or network to send a video recording of herself speaking in Yoruba on her social media channels at some point in 2024.

She was accused of saying in the video that Mr. Seyi Tinubu would pass away this year and that the Tinubu family has suffered sorrow and calamity in order to intimidate, threaten, and harass Mr. Seyi Tinubu.

According to reports, the communication made Seyi fearful of violence, death, or physical damage.

Section 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024, prohibits and punishes the offence.

In count two, the defendant was accused of purposefully sending a video clip in which she made statements in Yoruba in an attempt to intimidate, threaten, and harass Mr. Egbetokun.

According to reports, the communication made Egbetokun fearful of violence, death, or physical damage.

Section 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024, prohibits and punishes the offence.

Olamide was charged with third-count wilfully distributing or inducing the transmission of communication in the form of a video clip in which she said in Yoruba that Adejobi’s children would all perish in front of him.

She was also cited as saying that she intended to intimidate, frighten, and torment Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi by burying all of his children in one day.

Adejobi reportedly became afraid that his loved ones might die as a result of the conversation.

According to Section 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024, the offence is against the law and is penalised by it.
