Businessman Deji Adeleke, father of Afrobeats star Davido, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress, APC, spent about N60 billion on vote-buying during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke further claimed that voters in some parts of the state were offered as much as N50,000 in exchange for their votes during the poll.
The businessman made the allegations while speaking in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, where he also attributed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory partly to his prayers.
According to him, he prayed that voters would accept the money allegedly offered by the APC but still cast their ballots in favour of his brother.
The claim comes after the governor secured re-election in the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who finished with 444,815 votes.
The allegations concerning the scale of alleged vote-buying have not been independently established in the information provided.
However, Deji Adeleke said: “On the day of the election, when I heard about the kind of money they were spending, I went back to my little corner in my room and I knelt down and I prayed to God Almighty.
“I said, ‘God Almighty, let people collect their money but still vote for Ademola Adeleke.
“They spent N60 billion as we heard. Some places they bought votes for as high as 50,000, for one single vote.”
