President Bola Tinubu is set to formally launch the National Disaster Relief Fund Committee on Tuesday at the Council Chambers within the State House.

This committee, led by Tony Elumelu, who is the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, is tasked with creating a comprehensive, nationwide strategy for disaster response and climate resilience across Nigeria.

The relief fund will bring together stakeholders from both government and the private sector, serving as the main hub for the federal government’s emergency response funding. It is designed to enhance and support the existing work of Nigeria’s emergency agencies.

It should be noted that President Tinubu had previously, during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) session in September of the previous year, approved Elumelu’s appointment as the head of the National Disaster Fund, representing private sector interests.

Other members of the high-profile committee include the head of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, the Ministers responsible for Budget and Economic Planning, Aviation, Water Resources, and Environment, as well as the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
