Peter Agada, the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), has disclosed that he is expecting to hear from Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Agada said he was prepared to collaborate with either or both opposition leaders, provided they shared his vision and agreed with his proposed plans for Nigeria.
He made the disclosure during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday.
When asked about the number of votes he hoped to secure in the 2027 presidential election, the YPP candidate said his target was between two million and 10 million votes.
“We are looking at between two and 10 million Nigerians. We are still working. I said two million because that’s where we are right now and increasing pretty fast,” he said.
Agada explained that since emerging as his party’s presidential candidate about 60 days ago, he had concentrated on expanding his support base through grassroots engagements, presentations and consultations.
The candidate, who disclosed that he was previously associated with the Obedient Movement, claimed that more than 40 per cent of its members who had not joined other political groups were backing his presidential bid.
“Over 40% of Obedients that did not move away are with me, and several other parties,” he said.
He maintained that his political ambition was centred on bringing Nigerians together across party lines rather than limiting his support to members of a particular political organisation.
“It’s not about parties. It’s not about which party you belong to,” he said.
On the possibility of forming an alliance with Obi and Atiku, Agada reiterated his willingness to work with the two opposition figures if they were committed to his proposed direction for the country.
“We are waiting a call by any one of them (Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar), or every of them to come, provided it falls along with what we want to implement for Nigeria,” he said.
“We’re going to work with anyone who aligns with this,” he added.
ZINGTIE reports that opposition politicians have continued to consider possible alliances and political realignments as preparations gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
