Just one day after a ceasefire was implemented between Israel and Iran, Israel officially designated Iran’s central bank as a terrorist organization, marking a significant escalation in its financial pressure campaign.

On Wednesday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the move through an official statement, revealing that he had signed a directive naming Iran’s Central Bank, two additional Iranian financial institutions, and a company linked to Iran’s military as terrorist entities.

Katz described the action as part of Israel’s broader initiative to disrupt the funding networks supporting Iranian-backed militant organizations across the Middle East.

“This is part of Israel’s broader campaign against Iran. It targets the heart of the Iranian regime’s terror financing system, which funds, arms, and directs terrorism throughout the region.” the statement read.

The announcement came on the heels of a U.S. and Qatari-mediated ceasefire that halted nearly two weeks of mutual drone and missile exchanges between the two longtime rivals.

The latest round of hostilities was triggered after the United States carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, which led Iran to retaliate with missile barrages targeting Israeli locations. Among the affected areas was the Ramat Aviv district of Tel Aviv, where at least 16 civilians were injured.

Tensions between the two nations, rooted in decades of geopolitical rivalry, escalated further last October following the Hamas-led assault on Israeli territory. That incident widened the conflict, drawing in Iran-aligned factions such as Hezbollah, the Houthi movement, and Iraqi paramilitary groups.

Although the ceasefire has brought a temporary halt to the violence, Israeli military officials indicated that their campaign against Iran will persist. Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the Israeli military’s top commander, made it clear that the broader strategic struggle with Iran is far from concluded.

“We have concluded a significant phase but the campaign against Iran is not over. We are entering a new phase based on the achievements of the current one,” Zamir said in a statement Tuesday.
