Ahead of the next general elections in 2027, members of the recently established opposition coalition party have explained their decision to support the African Democratic Congress, or ADC.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the opposition coalition, revealed this information on Wednesday while making an appearance as a guest on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” show.

According to Abdullahi, the decision resulted from the party’s willingness to change and its connection with the coalition’s common goals and principles.

“When we started this journey, we had a list of options, parameters, and conditionalities—the kind of party we were looking for. Those from the APC said no, because the founding principles that led to the formation of the APC had been betrayed,” he said.

He claimed that although the ADC was not a perfect fit, it offered a special chance for transformation and that the selection of former Senate President David Mark as interim national chairman boiled down to his character as a person in whom everyone had faith.

Coalition leaders formally approved the ADC as their platform to confront the APC in 2027 during a meeting earlier Wednesday at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, according to ZINGTIE.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, former Governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, as well as other political figures like Dino Melaye, Dele Momodu, Solomon Dalung, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti Kingibe, Emeka Ihedioha, and retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar were among the notable attendees.
