The urgency of the current stage of counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast was emphasized on Friday by Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff, COAS.
Shaibu warned soldiers that the success of current attempts to eradicate Boko Haram and ISWAP activities in the area will depend on the outcome of the next attack.
Speaking to the soldiers of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri, he issued the order.
He emphasized that failure was not an option as he informed the soldiers that the Nigerian Army was about to enter a crucial and pivotal phase of the conflict.
“You have been training to defeat the terrorists that have been disturbing the North-East. This time, you are going to do it differently. All combat enablers have been provided. New platforms have been introduced, all to ensure that you succeed,” he said.
Shaibu emphasized that the younger generation of soldiers is responsible for this stage of the operation and urged them to outperform the accomplishments of those who participated in previous domestic and international missions.
