An old man in Benue State broke down in tears after escaping an attack by Fulani herders, according to a harrowing story.
The elderly guy, who is now homeless and severely traumatized, claimed in a widely shared video on X by @ChukericE that the attackers not only killed his loved ones but also destroyed the crops and lands his family relied on for survival, leaving them with nothing.
In his words, he said: “Fulani herdsmen killed my people and destroyed the crops and farmland that my family depended on for food. Now we have nothing left to eat. I live in a family house in the village which has now become a camp. There are more than 200 people staying there, all from the same family.”
He claimed that prior to the violent assault, he and his larger family—more than 200 people—had been residing in a cramped family camp house in the village.
The elderly man, who was clearly shaken, described how everyday living has become difficult because they had no food, no place to live, and no idea how to start again after losing both their loved ones and their livelihood.
Nationwide emotional responses have been triggered by the video of his heartbreaking story.
A commentator wrote, “This is too heartbreaking. How can one family face this much pain?”
Another said, “Over 200 people displaced? Benue needs urgent intervention.”
Many Nigerians are urging for rapid relief assistance and more robust security measures to safeguard vulnerable populations throughout Benue and other impacted areas in response to the man’s plea for assistance.
