On Saturday, following the murder of a trader from Mbagel Village in Benue State’s Buruku Local Government Area, named Higightor Wenem, chaos erupted at the Fruit Market and Oil Mill in Rumuokwurusi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
On Saturday, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, informed journalists about the incident in a statement.
As she explained, the trader, in his effort to make room for his products in the marketplace, requested a wheelbarrow pusher by the name of Zakara Afaaruwu to move his wheelbarrow, which was blocking access to the trader’s goods.
The suspect, however, refused, resulting in a heated argument that culminated in the trader’s death.
The police stated that the argument escalated thereafter, resulting in the wheelbarrow pusher stabbing the victim with a dagger.
The PPRO stated that the trader was swiftly taken to the Military Hospital for treatment, but he was “confirmed dead by the medical Doctor.”
According to her, the suspect is presently detained and the investigation continues.
