Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s lobbyist, Karl Von Batten, has removed a social media post announcing his appointment by United States President Donald Trump as a commissioner on a White House presidential commission.
Checks on the verified X account of his firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., where the announcement was initially published, showed that the post could no longer be accessed.
Von Batten’s firm had earlier disclosed that President Trump appointed its managing partner as a commissioner.
However, Sunday Dare, a media aide to President Bola Tinubu, later downplayed the significance of the appointment, explaining that it was to the Commission on Presidential Scholars, an education-focused panel administered by the United States Department of Education.
Dare maintained that the commission has no role in matters relating to American foreign policy, national security, diplomacy or relations between the United States and Nigeria.
Karl Von Batten is a Washington-based lobbyist and the managing partner of Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., a firm reportedly engaged by Atiku to help strengthen his reputation and standing in the United States.
He has also been actively involved in calls for the release of US law enforcement records relating to President Bola Tinubu’s alleged links to drug trafficking.
