Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Law Mefor, has acknowledged that Peter Obi performed well during his tenure as governor of the state.

Mefor made the disclosure on Thursday while featuring on the 90MinutesAfrica podcast hosted by Rudolf Okonkwo.

He explained that the state government’s decision to examine Obi’s financial records was not intended to discredit his achievements or affect his presidential ambition, stressing that the disagreement was specifically related to the former governor’s claim that he left no financial liabilities for succeeding administrations.

According to him, the state government is seeking to clarify its financial records by challenging Obi’s assertion that his administration did not leave any financial liabilities for subsequent governments.

The commissioner also questioned Obi’s claim that his administration left N12.13 billion in an ecological fund account maintained with First Bank’s Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, UNIZIK, branch.

He reiterated that the state government had requested the relevant account statement from the bank but said it did not find evidence supporting the claimed balance.

“The intention of the Anambra State government is not to indict Peter Obi. Peter Obi did well as governor.

“There is no rift between Governor Soludo and Peter Obi. They are both in politics, and they have their interests to defend,” Mefor said.
