Former France international Bixente Lizarazu has tipped Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal to emerge as the winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Lizarazu believes the Spanish youngster deserves to claim football’s most prestigious individual award ahead of other leading contenders.

The former defender placed Yamal ahead of Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe in the race for this year’s honour.

He praised the Barcelona star for his exceptional performances, describing him as a phenomenal talent who has continued to improve his game.

Yamal’s impressive development has strengthened his standing among the players being considered for the prestigious award.

The winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or is expected to be announced before the end of October.

“I am going to try to stick to my criteria. For me, it’s no contest anymore—it’s Lamine Yamal,” Lizarazu said, as per Actu Foot via Téléfoot.

“What he does on the pitch these days, on top of that, he has even raised his level. It is true that his World Cup wasn’t incredible, but he is still a World Cup champion, he won the Spanish league, and he is a phenomenal player.”
