The African Technology and Innovation Institutes (ATII) will host the first edition of its leading platform, the African Industrial Forum (AIF), on Thursday, July 10, 2025. Established by Professor Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua of Nigeria—recognized as the first Black woman globally to earn a doctorate in Cybernetics—the virtual event aims to bring together top decision-makers, business leaders, scholars, and emerging youth voices to propel Africa’s shift into a dominant force in global manufacturing through advanced technology.
Under the theme “Africa’s Future: Shaping Global Industries Through Smart Manufacturing, Automation, and Artificial Intelligence,” the forum will build upon notable progress such as Nigeria’s 67% increase in manufacturing foreign direct investment, which reached $1.59 billion in 2023. The initiative sets out to accomplish five main objectives: promote intelligent manufacturing powered by AI and automation, enhance collaboration between sectors, equip young people with the skills needed for high-tech industrial careers, boost funding for domestic production systems, and close existing workforce skill shortages.
Speaking on the essence of the summit, the U.S.-based Professor Rose-Margaret calls for collaboration: “This is more than a forum—it’s Africa’s call to action,” she affirmed. “Through unity and innovation, we will build an industrial legacy defined by African ingenuity.” “Africa’s rise demands sustainable, inclusive growth.
“The AIF Summit unites stakeholders to ensure we become industrial innovators by design, not default. We must connect education to employment, policy to practice, and vision to implementation, empowering our youth to thrive as architects of Africa’s renaissance,” she said in a press statement.
Confirmed speakers include Dr. Kelechi Onyekachi Ofoegbu, Executive Commissioner for Corporate Services & Administration at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission; Dr. Akanimo Odon, a specialist in research strategy; Ene Macharm, leader of the Social Infrastructure and Energising Development (EnDev) program at GIZ; Dr. Edem Wornyo, an expert in AI-based product management; and Mr. John Kamara, a tech innovator and Co-Founder of Adanian Labs.
The summit is positioned as a key milestone in shifting Africa’s industrial role from consumption to production within the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It also targets growth beyond the current 10% share of manufacturing in Africa’s GDP and seeks to leverage platforms like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which could generate an estimated $450 billion in trade across the continent by 2035.
Additionally, the forum on July 10 will include a keynote presentation on “Africa’s Industrial Renaissance,” a cross-sector discussion panel, and an awards segment recognizing leaders in industrial advancement across the continent. Among ATII’s partners for the event are Arthur Jarvis University, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Adanian Labs, the Cross River State Government, Blue Seal, and the Sabi Africa Network.
