American music star Mary J. Blige has opened up about her decision to remain child-free, admitting that she sometimes wishes she had made a different choice.
The singer made the revelation while appearing on the Michelle Obama Podcast, where she reflected on how her views about motherhood have evolved over the years.
Blige explained that her decision was influenced by what she observed among members of her family when she was younger.
According to her, seeing relatives struggle with raising children, depend on babysitters and sacrifice their personal freedom made her decide against having children.
“When I was younger, I saw my family members struggle raising kids, needing baby sitters, not having freedom, so when I was younger I made the choice not to have any kids”
However, the 55-year-old entertainer said her perspective changed as she grew older.
She explained that watching her relatives develop close relationships with their teenage children made her reconsider the decision she took earlier in life.
“But now as I got older and get to see how their teenagers are valuable to them, I sometimes regret not having them early too”
Blige’s comments have generated varied reactions online, with some users maintaining that having children is a deeply personal decision.
Others, however, argued that her experience highlights how people’s priorities and perspectives can change as they grow older.
