Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has etched his name into history after becoming the first African artiste to reach the summit of the Billboard Global 200 Songs chart.
The Grammy Award-winning musician accomplished the milestone after his 2026 World Cup collaboration with Shakira, ‘Dai Dai’, climbed to the number one position on the chart this week.
The track currently sits at the top of both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global 200 Exclusive U.S. charts. It also jumped 12 spots this week to attain a new peak of No. 55 on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100.
In the meantime, fellow Nigerian singer Tems also recorded a major achievement, as her song ‘What You Need’ rose five places to a new peak of No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 after spending 15 weeks on the chart.
‘What You Need’ recently claimed the top spot on both the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the Mediabase Urban radio airplay chart.
Tems remains the first solo African artiste to achieve those milestones.
