A governorship hopeful in Enugu State under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Hon. Dozie Ogenyi, has appealed to his supporters to remain peaceful after election officials reportedly failed to arrive for the party primaries.

ZINGTIE reports that the NDC conducted its primary elections nationwide on Friday.

However, the exercise in Enugu State appeared to face serious setbacks due to internal divisions within the party, as supporters reportedly waited for hours without the presence of electoral officials.

Ogenyi, alongside senatorial aspirant Bishop Oscar Okwudili Ossai and other prominent figures within the party, toured several local government areas where large numbers of party faithful had gathered for the exercise.

While reacting to the absence of officials at the various centres despite the huge turnout, the governorship aspirant urged members of the party to stay calm, assuring them that the national leadership of the NDC would soon provide direction on the situation.

Speaking to supporters in Nsukka, Igbo-Eze South, Uzo-Uwani and other local government areas he visited, Ogenyi expressed concern over the delay.

“Those being expected to come from Enugu to conduct the primaries have caused unnecessary delay.”

Meanwhile, our correspondent observed that supporters in Nsukka Local Government Area, after waiting for several hours without seeing election officials, eventually lined up openly behind the aspirants they supported.
