Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is preparing to announce a salary increase for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the minister said the planned increment forms part of the Federal Government’s continued efforts to improve the welfare of military personnel and recognise their dedication and sacrifices in service to the nation.

He recalled that during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, military salaries were successfully increased from N49,000 to N100,000 as part of efforts to enhance troop welfare.

General Musa added that the government is currently taking concrete steps to secure an even more favourable remuneration package for officers and personnel of the Armed Forces.

“I want to state here that a few weeks ago, I mentioned that soldiers are now receiving N100,000. When I was Chief of Defence Staff, soldiers were receiving N49,000.

“About two years ago, I pushed for an increase to N100,000, and that was achieved. We are, however, making further efforts to increase it again,” Musa stated.
