The Labour Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has approved the sale of expressions of interest and nomination forms for the Edo State election to begin on January 25, 2024, and end on February 11, 2024.

Following the party’s NWC meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, Obiora Ifoh, the national publicity secretary released a communiqué with the information.

Ifoh claimed that LP did not charge female candidates for completing the expression of interest form alone.

He said: “Arising from the meeting of the NWC of the Labour Party under the chairmanship of Julius Abure, the party’s leadership took a far-reaching decision on the Edo election.

“This is with regards to the guidelines for the conduct of congress and primaries to elect candidates for the Edo gubernatorial election.

“They include the NWC’s approval of sales of forms to all interested aspirants from the state who are Nigerians or residents in the state.

“NWC approved that the fees for expression of interest shall be five million naira only, while the nomination form shall be twenty-five million naira only.”

Ifoh continued, saying that the Committee had approved the holding of ward and local government congresses to hold indirect primary elections to choose the party’s nominees.

He revealed that the primary election was scheduled for February 22, the aspirant screening was approved for February 14, and any issues or appeals coming from the primaries, if any, were scheduled for February 23.
