Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has warned that the growing insecurity and economic challenges facing the country could negatively impact President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term if immediate action is not taken.
Dalung made the observation during an interview with Seun Okibaloye, where he assessed the current state of affairs in the country.
According to him, many Nigerians are becoming increasingly dissatisfied due to escalating insecurity, joblessness, and harsh economic realities.
He maintained that these issues remain at the forefront of public concerns and are likely to influence voter decisions in future elections.
“The main offense that Tinubu would have said to have committed in the eyes of voters would be insecurity,” he said.
The former minister also identified the rising cost of living and what he described as poor economic management among the major factors shaping public opinion about the administration.
“Insecurity, untold hardship, mismanagement of the economy, corruption, unemployment,” he said.
Dalung further alleged that the benefits of the government’s policies and reforms have not trickled down to ordinary citizens.
He argued that those within government circles appear to be the primary beneficiaries of the current administration.
“The only people from 2023 to now that have been transformed are Tinubu and people in his government,” he said.
According to him, the economic realities facing citizens have created widespread frustration across the country.
He also raised concerns over recent developments in parts of the Southwest, particularly in Ibadan, warning that authorities should not overlook such signs.
“Have you ever imagined what is happening in the Southwest? Where in Ibadan… you could hear women coming out shouting ‘ole, ole,’” he said.
Dalung cautioned that ignoring such developments could have long-term political consequences.
“Those things happening in Ibadan, government should not ignore it. Because it is going to take us through the same political path we have been in our history,” he cautioned.
