The management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has suspended six lecturers over allegations bordering on cultism, sexual harassment and the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks.

The development was made known in a statement released on Sunday in Lokoja by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, John Onimisi.

“Six lecturers on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, were suspended by the management of the institution for the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, while a lecturer was also suspended for alleged sexual harassment,” the statement partly read.

The action follows growing concerns over reported cases of sexual harassment, cult-related activities and other forms of misconduct within the institution.

It was alleged that some lecturers demanded sexual favours or financial inducements from female students in exchange for favourable academic grades, while cult activities were also said to have resurfaced on campus.

There were further claims that some female students who reported incidents of sexual harassment received little support from the institution and were instead allegedly subjected to intimidation.

It was also alleged that cult groups had resumed holding nocturnal meetings within the campus despite earlier efforts to stamp out such activities.

Additional allegations included the reported return of compulsory handout sales, a relaxation of the institution’s dress code and the enforcement of student identity card policies, developments critics claimed had contributed to declining discipline on campus.

Responding to the allegations, Onimisi said the institution’s management had already commenced investigations through its disciplinary committee.

He assured that necessary disciplinary measures would be taken based on the outcome of the committee’s findings.
