The Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday held a meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The faction had earlier announced Jonathan, in his absence, as its presidential candidate for next year’s election.

The former president was not in attendance when his nomination was formally ratified by the group.

Although the faction has presented him as its presidential flag bearer, Jonathan has yet to publicly declare his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Recall that on May 7, Jonathan stated that he would embark on wide consultations before deciding whether to join the 2027 presidential race, following a protest by a group that converged on his Abuja office to urge him to contest.

However, the former president has not made any public comments on the matter since then.

As of the time of filing this report, details of Friday’s meeting between Jonathan and the factional PDP leaders had not been made public.
