Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has appointed Dr. Suleiman Wali Sani, mni, as the new Chief of Staff at the Government House, Kano.
This appointment was announced on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Dr. Sani, a veteran medical doctor and seasoned public servant, has spent over four decades contributing to both Kano State and the nation at large.
Before this new role, he served as the Governor’s Special Adviser on Civil Service Matters.
He earned his medical degree (MB, BS) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and holds an additional diploma from Bayero University, Kano. He is also a graduate of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, where he attained the title of Member of the National Institute (mni).
Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Sani has occupied numerous high-ranking roles in Kano’s public sector. His previous appointments include Director General of the Ministries of Health and Commerce, Permanent Secretary in several key departments, and Chief Medical Director of both the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital.
He has been influential in healthcare governance and policy formulation, serving on more than 40 committees at both the state and national levels. He has also represented Nigeria internationally in areas related to health administration and public sector development.
Known for his professionalism, integrity, and strong leadership, Dr. Sani is expected to enhance administrative coordination and strengthen the inner workings of government operations in the state.
In a related development, Governor Yusuf also appointed Major General Mohammed Sani (Rtd.) as the Director General of Special Services at the Government House.
Major General Sani, a retired infantry officer, served the Nigerian Army for over 35 years. During his military career, he held multiple command and staff roles, contributing significantly to national security, peacekeeping efforts, and conflict resolution, both domestically and internationally.

According to the announcement, the decision to reinstate the Office of the Chief of Staff—which had been dissolved in December 2024—is part of ongoing efforts by the Governor to streamline governance and improve administrative performance across the state.
Both appointments are effective immediately, with the Governor urging the newly appointed officials to apply their wealth of experience toward fostering transparent, efficient, and accountable governance.
