Man who returned after 6 years becomes upset after his wife asked him to use protection
Six years. That was the duration of this man’s absence. Yet on the very night he finally returned home, the first disagreement that arose centered around a medical check.
The story has been circulating widely on X after user @eezharhh shared it, and it has sharply divided opinions online in the way only deeply personal marital issues often do.
Here is what transpired. A Nigerian man came back home after living abroad for six years. Reports indicate he remained a committed husband from afar, consistently sending money and supporting his family throughout his stay away. So when he returned and sought intimacy with his wife that same night, he likely anticipated a warm reception. Instead, he was met with a request that caught him off guard.
His wife told him she wanted them both to get tested before anything happened between them. Her reasoning was not dramatic or complicated. She simply said she wanted them to know their status and be safe. That was it.
The man reacted by accusing her of lacking trust. He described her request as emotional blackmail.
Now the internet has opinions, and they are not shy about sharing them.
@eezharhh posed the question that ignited the debate: after six years apart, is asking for a test an act of disrespect or simply a matter of common sense? He pointed out that some people believe the wife disrespected her husband with the request, while others argue she was merely protecting herself from potential long-term consequences. He concluded with a remark that fueled further reactions: can anyone be away for that long and truly expect no questions?
The responses followed quickly. @TheCaptainFam expressed a view shared by many, stating that if the man had nothing to hide, a brief test should not be an issue, and that anger in such a situation raises concerns. @Jossyluv04 supported the wife’s stance, emphasizing that prioritizing safety after a six-year separation reflects responsibility, not disrespect. @_Oluwanifemii highlighted another detail that caught attention, noting that the man had only just returned and was already requesting intimacy that same night, which raised further questions.
A contrasting perspective came from @Baruch_Bashan, who argued that the wife’s insistence on testing implied a lack of confidence in her husband’s judgment and his ability to take care of himself while abroad.
And that captures the divide online. Two opposing interpretations of the same situation, with neither side appearing willing to reconsider its position.
What remains difficult to dispute, however, is the reality of the timeline. Six years is a significant period. People evolve. Situations shift. Requesting a test is not necessarily an accusation; it can be a conversation. The fact that the discussion escalated into conflict before it could fully unfold may be the most revealing aspect of the entire situation.
