The House of Representatives on Tuesday withdrew its proposed constitutional amendment aimed at creating state police across the country.

The development followed lawmakers’ decision to proceed with the consideration of a separate State Police Bill submitted by the Executive arm of government.

During Tuesday’s plenary, the Executive-sponsored legislation successfully passed its first and second readings before being referred to the House Committee on Constitutional Review for further legislative consideration.

The move effectively suspends the House’s earlier proposal as legislative attention shifts to the version presented by the Executive.

With the Executive-backed bill now progressing through the House, lawmakers are expected to scrutinise its key provisions during the committee stage.
