A combined team of Nigerian Army troops, the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun, has eliminated a senior leader of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), Abdussamad Ohida, during an intelligence-led operation in Owo forest, Ondo State.
Security expert, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this in a report shared on his official X handle on Monday.
According to him, security sources revealed that Ohida, also known as Anwar, was killed alongside several other members of the terrorist group after security operatives launched a surprise assault on their forest hideout.
The report stated that the ISWAP commander had allegedly been preparing to carry out large-scale terrorist attacks in some southern states before he was eliminated.
Makama said Ohida had previously served as deputy to the ISWAP Central Nigeria leader, Abu Ikrimah, also known as Abu Uwais.
Ikrimah was reportedly arrested by Nigerian security operatives in 2023.
Following his arrest, Ohida reportedly assumed responsibility for ISWAP operations across parts of the North-Central and southern regions of the country.
He subsequently became involved in the planning, coordination and execution of terrorist activities in the affected areas.
The source further disclosed that intelligence obtained by the DSS during the interrogation of Abu Uwais provided information about Ohida’s alleged plans to attack civilians during the forthcoming Yuletide period.
“The plan was to attack civilians during the festive period and ultimately disrupt the 2027 general elections.
“This intelligence was corroborated by intelligence partners from the United Kingdom, who supported the elimination operation,” one of the sources said.
According to the source cited by Makama, Ohida was also responsible for planning and carrying out the December 31, 2025, attack on Ipele Divisional Police Station in Owo, Ondo State.
The attackers reportedly carted away AK-47 rifles during the assault before using an explosive device to destroy the police station.
