Kano police arrest man for alleged murder of sister’s boyfriend

Mansur Umar, 25, has been arrested by the Kano State Police Command for the alleged murder of Sulaiman Musa, the boyfriend of his sister, after a violent dispute in Kunya Village, Minjibir Local Government Area.

The incident happened on Friday, May 9, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., when the victim, Sulaiman Musa of Goda Village, went to see his girlfriend, Fiddausi Umar, at her home in Kunya, according to a statement released on Monday, May 12, by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer.

According to the police, a fight broke out during the visit, and Mansur Umar is accused of severely injuring Musa by striking him on the head with a stick.

“The victim was rushed to Kunya Cottage Hospital and later referred to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, where he was pronounced dead at 12:50 a.m. the following day,” the statement noted.

Since then, the suspect has been placed under arrest and is being investigated by the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section (CID).

CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, advised citizens to use caution and refrain from enforcing the law on their own.

“We appeal to residents to prioritize peaceful coexistence and report any disputes or issues to the nearest police station for prompt resolution,” the Command advised.

As part of continuous efforts to uphold peace and order throughout the state, the police also urged the people to be on guard and report any suspicious activity.
