The senator representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, Garba Maidoki, has disclosed that worsening insecurity in his constituency was the major reason he ventured into politics.
Maidoki made the revelation on Tuesday while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The lawmaker explained that he had no personal ambition to pursue a political career but was compelled to do so by the persistent security challenges affecting his community.
Maidoki recently defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, following unresolved disputes within the ruling party arising from the just-concluded primaries in Kebbi State.
Speaking during the interview, the senator said insecurity in his area convinced him that political participation had become necessary.
“The only reason I joined politics is because of the insecurity in my area. I have no interest in doing politics.
“We have done everything we can to protect ourselves at the community level. Then it dawned on us that if we use our ballot papers wisely, it is better than using our bullets,” he said.
