Lionel Messi, an iconic Argentine footballer, recently opened up about his retirement on the Big Time Podcast, sharing details about his future goals as he approaches the end of his playing career.

In 19 appearances across all competitions since joining Inter Miami in the summer of 2023, Messi has provided 16 goals and seven assists.

However, the 36-year-old has also struggled with injuries, raising questions about how long he will be able to play the sport.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner stressed his self-awareness and admitted that he critically assessed his performances as he reflected on his retirement intentions.

Regardless of age, Messi stated that he is willing to give up the game when he believes he can no longer give it his all or enjoy playing.

“I am very self critical of myself, I know when I’m good, when I’m bad, when I play well and when I play badly. When I feel it’s time to take that step, I will take it without thinking about age,” Messi said.

“I know that moment I feel I am no longer ready to perform, that I am no longer enjoying myself or helping my teammates.”
