Jose Mourinho has opened up on the reason behind his decision to return to Real Madrid, admitting that his affection for the Spanish club played a major role in his comeback.

The 63-year-old was recently confirmed as the new manager of Los Blancos ahead of the 2026/2027 campaign.

Mourinho’s appointment marks his second spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, having previously managed the Spanish giants between 2010 and 2013.

During his first tenure with the club, the Portuguese tactician guided Real Madrid to LaLiga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup triumphs.

He now returns to a side that has endured back-to-back seasons without winning a major trophy.

Despite the challenges awaiting him, Mourinho indicated that his emotional attachment to the club outweighed every other consideration.

“I love Real Madrid, and this is the reason why I’m coming back. I don’t deny it,” Mourinho told reporters.
