The All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in the recently concluded Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has spoken publicly for the first time since the poll.
ZINGTIE recalls that Oyebamiji was defeated by the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, in the keenly contested election.
In a statement shared on his verified X handle on Tuesday, Oyebamiji said he accepted the decision announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
INEC declared Adeleke the winner after he secured 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji finished with 444,815 votes.
Following the declaration, the APC candidate expressed appreciation to party leaders and supporters across Osun State for their dedication throughout the campaign.
Oyebamiji also thanked those who supported what he described as the alternative vision his campaign presented to the electorate.
He said: “Although we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, in the meantime, we respect the position of the electoral umpire, and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” he said.
He maintained that although the election and campaign had ended, the principles and issues his campaign promoted remained relevant.
“The campaign has come to an end and the election is over, but the values and causes we championed are alive.
“We will continue to work for effective, inclusive and rapid development of our dear Osun,” he added.
