The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition is intended to provide him with an avenue to avoid possible investigations after leaving office.

The party made the allegation in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare.

The statement was issued on Sunday.

ZINGTIE reports that Makinde is the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.

The governor is expected to complete his second term in office in May next year.

Reacting to the development, Sadare alleged that Makinde’s decision to seek the presidency was aimed at creating an opportunity for him to leave the country before the expiration of his tenure on May 29, 2027.

The APC spokesman claimed that the governor was attempting to avoid possible legal consequences over allegations of corruption and abuse of office attributed to his administration.

Sadare further alleged that Makinde was planning to leave Nigeria from January next year.

He also accused the governor of using the presidential bid as a means of misleading Nigerians.

“Meanwhile, we can authoritatively inform the whole world that Makinde is only out to hoodwink Nigerians, distract the anti-graft agencies which are on his cases and also secure an escape route from the country anytime from January 1, 2027.

“We are working on the details of his plans even as relevant security agents are already on red alert because he (Makinde) will be made to answer for all his atrocities since he was sworn in as governor in May 2019.”
