A robbery incident occurred in Zone E Extension of the Apo Resettlement area in Abuja, ending in a violent shootout that left one person dead and two others injured.
The event, which took place at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Monday, was disclosed through a statement by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh.
“Following a distress call received from a commercial motorcycle rider in Apo Resettlement, reporting heavy gunfire in the area, the Divisional Police Officer of Apo Division immediately mobilised his Ambush and Surveillance Teams to the scene.
“The attackers engaged the police team in a fierce gun battle. In a swift tactical response, a reinforcement team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations arrived at the scene. The operatives responded with superior firepower, forcing the assailants to flee into the surrounding hills.” the statement revealed.
The report further stated that three individuals with different levels of injuries were transported to the hospital for urgent treatment. A light green Toyota Corolla with the license plate GWA 620 AU, reportedly owned by one of the victims, was also found at the location.
Medical staff later confirmed the death of one of the victims, and the deceased was taken to the morgue.
Authorities also announced that a combined operation involving police officers and members of the local vigilante group has been launched to track down and arrest the suspects who escaped.
