Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, has instituted a legal action against the Sokoto State Government over its alleged refusal to release the report of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate his administration between 2015 and 2023.

Tambuwal, through his counsel, U.O. Sule, SAN, filed the suit, numbered SS/133/2026, before Justice Mohammed Mohammed of the Sokoto State High Court 6.

Named as defendants in the case are Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu; the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; and the Sokoto State Commission of Inquiry.

The legal action followed the alleged failure or refusal of the state government and the commission to furnish Tambuwal with a copy of the report after the conclusion of the commission’s proceedings.

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry was established by the Sokoto State Government to investigate activities, transactions and other issues connected to the Tambuwal administration, which governed the state from 2015 to 2023.

The commission was headed by former Chief Judge of Gombe State, Justice Mu’azu Pindiga.

Through the suit, Tambuwal is seeking an order compelling the defendants to release the commission’s report to him.

He argued that obtaining the document would enable him to know the findings and conclusions reached by the commission following its proceedings.

The suit has now brought the disagreement over the commission’s report before the court, placing the defendants under judicial scrutiny over Tambuwal’s demand.

The court has scheduled November 9, 2026, for judgment in the matter.
