The Nigerian military has set up a general court-martial to try 36 personnel accused of involvement in a plot to overthrow the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Defence Headquarters inaugurated the court-martial on Friday at the Scorpion Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, under strict security presence.

The proceedings were conducted behind closed doors owing to the sensitive nature of the case.

ZINGTIE reports that journalists, including accredited defence correspondents who had earlier been invited, were denied entry into the venue.

Security operatives also prohibited the use of mobile phones to record the arrival of the 36 defendants, who were conveyed to the location in an Army Headquarters Garrison bus at about 8:53 am.

The military trial is taking place alongside separate criminal charges filed by the Federal Government against civilians allegedly linked to the coup plot at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
