Several people are feared to have lost their lives following an attack by suspected herdsmen along the Odugbeho–Aila Road in Agatu Local Government Area.

ZINGTIE gathered that the victims were on their way back from their farms when the attackers, who were said to have laid an ambush, opened fire on them.

The exact number of casualties could not be confirmed as of the time of filing this report, although at least four bodies have reportedly been recovered from the scene.

Among those identified were Joy Simon and Lyta Monet.

Attempts to obtain official confirmation were unsuccessful, as the Benue State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Edet Udeme, did not respond to calls and messages sent to him.

Likewise, calls made to the Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area, Melvin Ejeh, were not answered as at the time of this report.
