The new tower will increase emergency and surgical capacity, expand mental health services, and incorporate advancements in AI and innovation. The gift is the largest single contribution in the history of the hospital and will name the new tower in Toronto’s west end.

“This gift is deeply personal,” said Gilgan, whose six siblings and he were born at St. Joseph’s Health Centre. “West Toronto is close to my heart. I’m proud to support this transformation so St. Joe’s can continue caring for families like mine for the next century.”

Gilgan’s gift is a testament to his commitment to the community and his desire to make a lasting impact. With this donation, he has contributed over $50.97 million to the hospital and over $72.8 million to Unity Health Toronto, a network that includes St. Joe’s, St. Michael’s Hospital, and Providence Healthcare.

The new patient tower will be a significant addition to the hospital, providing improved facilities and services to the community. Gilgan’s gift will have a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals and families in Toronto
