New information has surfaced regarding the kidnapping of Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro, a judge on the Bayelsa State High Court, by unidentified gunmen in the Ekeki suburb of Yenagoa, the state capital.

After a scuffle, Justice Omukoro of Court 7 was apprehended on Saturday night in front of Kilimanjaro, a well-known restaurant close to the often crowded Ekeki motor park.

He was with two of his daughters to purchase a loaf of bread from the restaurant when the gunman opened fire, according to reports.

Many thought the masked armed men in black combat gear might have followed the kidnapped judge to the restaurant.

It was discovered that two shooters were seen rapping on the window of the Judge’s rolled-down Prado jeep as they descended from a white Hilux van. It was said that Justice Omukoro had his cell phone on call.

According to one witness, he heard the shooters say to the judge, “our Oga wants to see you”, but the judge replied, “Are you aware am a judge? Tell your Oga to come and see me here.”

The informant went on to say that after leaving the judge’s vehicle, the armed guys called an unidentified individual.

“Three of the gunmen later walked back, banging loudly on the judge’s car and forcibly opened the door and dragged him down.

“The judge was seen struggling with the gunmen, but nobody could venture to move close.

He was eventually forced into their car, a white Hilux van, unchallenged and whisked away,” the source said.
