Former Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, has explained why Michael Olise opted not to represent Nigeria at international level.
Olise was born in England to a Nigerian father and a Franco-Algerian mother.
The 24-year-old was eligible to play for Nigeria, Algeria, France, or England before eventually committing his international future to France national team.
However, speaking in an interview with Brila FM, Rohr disclosed that the former Crystal Palace winger had already made up his mind years earlier to represent France.
“In 2019, I saw Michael Olise with my assistant Tunde Adelakun,” Rohr said.
“We tried to invite him, but he did not want to join us at the time.
“He was already playing well. As at when we saw him, that was six to seven years ago, we saw him so strong and unfortunately, he refused to play for Nigeria.”
