The Presidency has criticised the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, over their differing positions on fuel subsidy.

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Daniel Bwala, described the two politicians as confused in a post shared on his verified X handle on Tuesday.

Kwankwaso had earlier stated that the NDC would restore fuel subsidy in a different form if the party wins the January 2027 presidential election.

Obi, however, had previously argued that the subsidy should be removed, maintaining that the mismanagement of funds should not be used as a reason to retain it.

The differing positions have now drawn a reaction from the Presidency as the 2027 presidential election approaches.

Reacting, Bwala said, “Both have different views about fuel subsidy. Their confusion is confusing me. Peter Obi used to be the master of populist rhetoric, Atiku has taken that oxygen from him.

“All of them are more interested in rhetorics than the realities of our country and the need to take the bull by the horn.

“President Bola Tinubu has maintained focus on the issues our people care about and he is addressing them all.

“When Atiku and Amaechi said they would subsidize production, President Tinubu is already doing that in the agriculture, oil and gas, manufacturing, digital economy etc. Follow who know road.”
