Nigeria international Igoh Ogbu has successfully undergone surgery following the injury he sustained while on national team duty, ZINGTIE reports.

The defender suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon just days before the Super Eagles’ international friendly encounter against Portugal.

According to his club, Slavia Prague, the injury will keep the centre-back out of action for approximately three months.

As a result, the 26-year-old is expected to miss the opening phase of the new campaign.

Ogbu had established himself as a regular figure in the Super Eagles setup before the unfortunate setback.

The former Nigeria youth international featured prominently in the squad that lifted the Unity Cup invitational tournament.

He was involved in Nigeria’s matches against Zimbabwe and Jamaica during the competition.

The defender also played the opening 45 minutes of the Super Eagles’ 2-2 friendly draw with Poland before his injury concerns surfaced.
