Former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, was reportedly seen at the Lagos Directorate 1 office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, situated along Awolowo Road in Ikoyi.

A senior official within the anti-corruption agency disclosed that the former governor’s presence at the office may be linked to the ongoing investigation into allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office during his tenure.

Okowa has remained under EFCC investigation since leaving office over claims involving the alleged misappropriation of approximately N1.3 trillion from the 13 per cent derivation funds allocated to Delta State from the Federation Account between 2015 and 2023.

The former governor was first taken into custody on November 4, 2024, and later interrogated at the commission’s Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate.

According to the source, Okowa’s visit to the Lagos office was aimed at obtaining the release of his international passport to enable him travel overseas for what was described as urgent medical attention.

As of the time this report was filed, it was not clear whether the anti-graft agency approved the request and released the travel document.

Attempts to get an official reaction from the spokesperson of the EFCC, Mr Dele Oyewale, proved unsuccessful, as calls placed to his telephone number were not answered.
