The Sokoto State Police Command has heightened security measures in Kebbe Local Government Area following intelligence reports indicating a planned attack by suspected bandits.

The command disclosed the development on Thursday, assuring residents that additional security measures had been activated to prevent the reported threat and protect lives and property.

The spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed that authorities were aware of the situation and had placed the affected area on red alert.

“Yes, the command is aware of the imminent threat. The command is on red alert and we will never rest on our oars to fully protect the lives and properties of all the law-abiding residents of Sokoto State,” Rufai added.

The security alert followed reports that suspected bandits had demanded a N40 million levy from residents of Kebbe town.

The criminals reportedly threatened to kill residents and set the town ablaze if the demanded money was not paid.

Local sources said the suspected bandits had allegedly scheduled Friday for the attack.

They also claimed that the group was mobilising and reaching out to other criminal elements in an effort to secure additional support for the operation.

The latest threat comes roughly two weeks after a deadly bandit attack on Kebbe and nearby communities reportedly resulted in several deaths and the abduction of scores of residents.

The police command is expected to maintain heightened security operations in the area as authorities work to prevent another attack and protect residents.
