Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has explained why she rejected the House of Representatives ticket offered to her by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yesufu disclosed her reasons during an interview with Symfoni TV.

The activist said her decision was driven by personal principles, explaining that some of the political offers presented to her came with conditions she was unwilling to accept.

According to her, she would not pursue political power at the expense of her values or integrity.

She stressed that political positions should not be obtained through coercion, adding that she was not prepared to compromise her principles for any offer.

“I did not accept the House of Representatives ticket that was given to me because there were other people who were doing it on the issue of principle. There were many issues where many people brought ‘I will make you this but you have to do A, B, C, D. It’s pretty obvious.”
