Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, has disclosed that she was moved to tears after her son departed from Portugal’s national team camp last week.
Dolores has spoken publicly for the first time about the “shock” she experienced following the incident.
Ronaldo left the camp after spending the entire 90 minutes on the bench during Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway in the UEFA Nations League.
The 41-year-old has since claimed that his decision to leave the camp followed a “breach of trust” between him and head coach Jorge Jesus.
“I feel sad, it’s normal. It was a shock, my son could have left through the main door and instead he left through the small door, but it’s okay, God will take care of it,” Dolores Aveiro said in a statement to TV 7 Dias.
“I cried a little. It’s good too, to let go. We have to turn this around.”
