The First Lady of Cross River State, Bishop Eyoanwan Otu, has revealed that thousands of residents across the state’s 18 local government areas have benefited from her free medical outreach program over the past two years. Otu made this disclosure during the launch of the program’s second round, alongside the Cross River State Health Insurance Scheme and a sensitization meeting on Measles and Rubella Vaccines.

According to Otu, the outreach program, conducted in collaboration with Faith Care Outreach International and the state Ministry of Health, has achieved remarkable success. The program has provided “free major and minor surgeries, 2,138 eye care services, 807 dental care procedures, 898 laboratory investigations, over 7,000 general consultations” and reached over 15,000 beneficiaries in just two years.

Otu expressed her passion for the program, stating, “The testimonies and transformation that we have received this far are heartwarming and encouraging… Many of them had given up hope due to financial constraints, and their stories continue to inspire and rekindle my passion to extend and expand the programme.”

The Team Lead of Faith Care International, Prof Peter Schnatz, praised the First Lady’s initiative, saying, “We have been working in Nigeria for the past 33 years… Our priority is to share love and bring health, hope and healing to the people, especially the vulnerable ones.

Other officials, including the Commissioner for Health and the Director General of the Cross River State Health Insurance Agency, commended the First Lady for her initiative, which has brought relief to thousands of citizens. The event also featured Otu’s decoration as Brand Ambassador of the Cross River State Health Scheme.

Otu emphasized the program’s impact, stating, “Through the consistent and selfless partnership of my co-visioners, the Faith Care International, we have brought joy and smiles to the faces of Cross Riverians and other Nigerians who have benefitted from our services as we are humanity without borders.
