The arrest of one of the individuals connected to the June 22, 2025, kidnapping of eleven passengers from a Benue Links Hummer Bus and the successful rescue of the other eleven passengers have been made public by the Benue State Police Command.

The Inspector-General of Police Special Intervention Squad (IGP-SIS) conducted the operation in coordination with the Command’s Tactical and Patrol Teams, the Military, and other security agencies, according to a statement issued by DSP Edet, the Command’s Public Relations Officer.

The rescue squad followed the kidnappers’ movements through the woodland route surrounding Ondo Village in Ugbokolo, Okpokwu Local Government Area, based on reliable intelligence. Eleven victims were successfully rescued after hours of searching the area, and one suspect was caught right away.

“This positive development follows a sustained and intelligence-driven operation. The victims are currently receiving medical attention and psychological support,” the statement read.

This comes just one week after two other victims of the same kidnapping event were freed and reunited with their families, the Command further said.

Commissioner of Police CP Ifeanyi Emenari praised the bravery and professionalism of the officers and reminded the public that efforts are still being made to capture the other criminals and prosecute them.

He also thanked the relatives of the victims for their cooperation and patience, and he asked the public to keep providing the police with helpful information.
